Petalwave is an Ann Arbor-based indie rock, power pop, and alt-country band. It began when former University of Michigan bandmates Anna(center) and Trevor(far left) connected with guitarist Will(right of center) and bassist Jake(far right) via an online forum. They later recruited drummer Sam(left of center), a former classical music classmate of Anna’s.

Though split between Ann Arbor and Cleveland, the band has crafted a cohesive sound, blending shimmering power pop melodies with indie rock grit and alt-country warmth. Inspired by artists like Mazzy Star, Pinegrove, Slow Pulp, and Wilco, their debut EP, Morning Somewhere, explores themes of longing, self-discovery, and finding meaning in life’s uncertainties.

With a growing presence in the Midwest, Petalwave has played in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and beyond, sharing the stage with local and touring acts. As they continue writing, recording, and performing, more live shows and new music are on the horizon!!
